Bump Of Chicken New Single Smile Collaborates With Comic Artist Inoue Takehiko

After the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011, the Japanese entertainment industry immediately sprung to action. Affected by images of the devastation, rock band Bump of Chicken collaborates with comic artist Inoue Takehiko (Slam Dunk, Vegabond) on the charity single Smile. While the band provides the song, which is serving as the theme song of commercials for Softbank's recovery portal site, Inoue serves as director/illustrator for the song's music video.

The two will work together on “Smile” with Inoue in charge of the illustrations and BUMP OF CHICKEN contributing the music for the commercial which airs from April 15th. Part of Softbank Mobile’s “Let’s Persevere Together Japan” Project, the “Revival Support Portal Site” will feature two commercials, “Smile” and “ONE”, both of which are 30 seconds.

In order to complete the commercial as quickly as possible, BUMP OF CHICKEN finished writing the song only two days after their phone conversation with Inoue. “We think that this work is the result of the deep connection between Inoue’s and our thoughts. We want anyone and everyone to see it”. All proceeds from the single will be donated to the disaster relief efforts.
